The Economy Drives Down Male Memberships

Over the past 6 to 9 months we have seen our membership base increase to more than 60% Filipinas. This is very unusual when it comes to Filipina dating sites. Normally you have the opposite problem.Too few Filipina ladies and too many men. This trend shows no signs of reversing itself in the near future.

At melindaspenpals.com we believe the economy is the number one factor contributing to the decrease in male memberships. The economic situation for many is bleak. This is especially true in the United States. Since the majority of men (65% to 70%) that join MP are from the US it is having a impact on male memberships.

Since we are a free site one might ask why the economy should matter? If we are offering a free service with more than 4000 members, being free should attract more men. On the face of it this makes sense. The problem is that Filipina dating goes beyond "free memberships". Membership fees are just a fraction of the 
total financial investment one makes when marrying a lady from the Philippines. This whole process may look like too much of a financial hardhip in today's economy. Even for the men that have jobs, they may not feel very secure about their financial future.

Most men that start an online relationship with a Filipina lady overseas are aware of the financial costs down the road. If things become serious then the men will need to travel to the Philippines to meet their Filipina girlfriends. They will often have to make several trips over a period of months or years.  Airfare and hotels 
are not cheap, especially when the trips extend for weeks. If a guy is afraid of losing his job, is unemployed, or underemployed, this can present problems.

Some men have put aside their plans to marry abroad. Just like anything else, including personal relationships and marriage, we often change our priorities based on our financial outlook. Instead 
of slowing down the search for a Filipina partner many guys have just abandoned the whole process. The girl next door, or a previous relationship, may now seem like a better option.

This is where I think men are making a critical mistake. This is especially true for men that have experienced Filipino culture and spent time getting to know Filipina ladies. For a small segment of 
us, we happen to be drawn to ladies from the Philippines for many reasons. If a guy knows his core values and principles fit best with Filipino culture, including the value put on marriage and family, he 
should stick to his values. Instead of giving up on the whole idea guys should just make adjustments. If it takes another 6 months or a year to make it happen then so be it. Anything beats reverting back to what has already failed in the past, just for the sake of being with "anyone".

The good news is that the economy will eventually improve. Until it does there is no reason this should stop anyone from making new friends. If one waits until their economic situation is perfect to start communicating with a Filipina they have wasted a lot of valuable time. Also, airfare rates after the holidays are really coming down.
